Tips for Your Road Trip

To make the most of your car trip through the Panhandle, consider these tips:

  • Plan Your Route: Map out your stops and plan your route to ensure you don’t miss any must-see attractions. Familiarize yourself with your route and have a backup plan in case of road closures or detours.

  • Stay Hydrated: Florida can get hot, especially in the summer months. Keep plenty of water on hand and take regular breaks to stay hydrated and refreshed.

  • Pack Essentials: Bring sunscreen, beach gear, and comfortable clothing for outdoor activities. A camera is a must to capture the beautiful scenery!

  • Be Flexible: While it’s good to have a plan, be open to spontaneous stops and discoveries along the way. Some of the best experiences come from unplanned adventures.

  • Limited Cell Service: Some areas in the Panhandle have poor cell service, which can hinder communication in the event of an emergency. Consider having a satellite phone for emergencies. Before heading into areas with poor cell service, inform friends or family of your travel plans and expected return times. This way, they can check on you if you don’t return as scheduled.

  • Stay Informed: Check weather forecasts and road conditions before traveling. Be aware of any severe weather warnings. The Panhandle is prone to sudden weather changes, including thunderstorms, heavy rain, and tornadoes. These conditions can lead to reduced visibility and slippery roads.
  • Emergency Kits: Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle that includes essential supplies, such as water, food, a flashlight, a tire repair kit, and a first aid kit. This can be invaluable if you find yourself in a situation where help is delayed.
