Refreshing InfoStarBase: A Fun Journey of Revitalization
Hey there! I’m excited to share the story behind the refreshing of my website, InfoStarBase. It’s been quite the adventure, and I can’t wait to take you along for the ride!
Why Change Was Needed
So, let’s start with the backstory. A couple of years ago, I realized that my website’s code was so outdated that search engine spiders were avoiding it like the plague! It was a bit of a mess, and I knew it was time for a change. Additionally, I had been exploring AI classes, and I was eager to apply my new skills.
The Big Decision
As I pondered my capstone project, I realized that with the return-to-office (RTO) plans looming, I wasn’t looking forward to the chaos of office life again. I mean, shared equipment (how nasty is that?), no dedicated office space, and the dreaded parking situation? No thanks! It made me question: Does a web developer need to be in the office to do their best work?
With that in mind, I decided to take the plunge and refresh InfoStarBase. I knew I would need a solid portfolio in case my request to work remotely was denied. This was the perfect opportunity to create something new and exciting. After backing up all the content (safety first!), I wiped the slate clean and started fresh. It was a bit scary, but also super exciting!
As it turns out, my request for remote work was denied, which only reinforced my decision. So, here I am, ready for new opportunities and available for REMOTE hire only! :)
Teaming Up with AI
Enter my trusty AI teammate, Alice! With her by my side, I felt like I had a secret weapon. Together, we brainstormed ideas and tackled the redesign. With my years of web development experience since 1994, I had a few tricks up my sleeve, and Alice helped streamline the process. Typically, a project of this size would involve about six people, including me, but with Alice’s assistance, we were able to accomplish so much more with just the two of us!
The Creative Process
Backup and Wipe: First things first, I made sure to back up everything. Once that was done, I wiped the site clean. It was like hitting the reset button!
Designing with AI: Alice and I worked together to create a brand-new look. I chose a content management tool I had NEVER used before, which made things a little challenging at times. We focused on making the site user-friendly and visually appealing.
Timeline: I set a goal to complete the redesign in under 30 days. It was a challenge, but with determination and a sprinkle of creativity, we made it happen!
The Exciting Result
After all the hard work, I’m thrilled to say that the new InfoStarBase is live! The fresh design not only looks great but also improves user experience and SEO. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come!
Looking Ahead
I look forward to sharing this project as a case study in the future. There’s so much to talk about, and I’m eager to hear what everyone thinks of the new site. Plus, I have some exciting plans for future updates!
